Zeus or Jesus...?

There can be only ONE!!

Now let us take a look at some of the major players! Round one: Zeus versus Jesus. In Greek myth, the Greek God Cronos was warned of a prophecy that one of his children would conquer and overthrow him. To prevent this, Cronos thought it would be a good idea to swallow his children. Rhea, Cronos' wife, managed to hide his youngest child, Zeus by sending him to a cave in Crete. He was nourished by the goat of Amalthea and a swarm of bees, amongst other animals to aid him. In the biblical story, King Herod heard of a prophecy that the "king of the Jews" was to be born. Jesus (also a son of God) was hidden from Herod and born in a cave in Israel. Animals surrounded and offered warmth to Jesus in the cave (Matthew 2). Both prophecies were unsuccessfully thwarted and the sons of Gods continued on to succeed. Both characters sit upon the throne of their respective kingdoms, be it Mt Olympus or Heaven. Another thought…maybe it's all in the name Jesus (often pronounced HEY-ZEUS)....

  1. I'll fill in your differences again here. Yes the images of Zeus and Jesus are often depicted very similarly, as are the images of Zeus and the Christian God. There are some similarities with there births and prophesies and being the sons of Gods. But again there needs be light shed on the very different people that Zeus and Jesus ended up being. Zeus is the ruler and most powerful of all Gods, gaining his seat by violently de-throning his father Cronos. His care for men is very low, he punishes them when he feels right too and regards him and other Gods as total superiors. He seems to greatly delight in sexual pleasures and has 'courted' hundreds of women and perhaps a particular young boy...doesn't sound too Christian to me.
Jesus on the other hand, as the story goes, was sent to absolve human sin, a total saviour to the human race. He shows love and compassion for every man, men and women are as his children. He did not partner with man or woman, and his intention were always pure.
P.S. I like the comic! I'd probably put my money on Zeus!
